sick, sick, sick.

Well, sister and i had big plans for this weekend! Because of the Aspen trip coming up this weekend, I ended up having 5 days in a row off-WOW. so nice. :) we had decided to take our first camping trip of the summer!!

i spent thursday, the first of my five days, cleaning house, doing errands, enjoying Denver and then i decided to go on a long run; longer than i usually run. 9.2 miles-ack!

it was hot and muggy by the time i was ready for the run but i didn't want to pass up the chance to run a new section of the Highline Canal that included a stop at the REI right on the river. :) i just love that store. so i set out, loaded up with water, chapstick, sunscreen and my ipod.

the good news is that i ran 8 out of the 9.2 miles; my second longest run EVER. i saw new and beautiful parts of Denver and i didn't get sunburned! :) it was also nice to just set out on a run without any sort of time deadline...so often we squeeze exercise into the day and it was really nice to have an open timeline. :)

the bad news is that i got heat exhaustion from the whole experience. :( almost as soon as i got in my car to drive back to my apartment, i was light-headed and insanely nauseous. i drove home fast. ha.

on the run, i had decided to drive down to the Springs that night. initially, i was planning to drive in on Friday AM but i really had nothing to do so i thought, "why not?!"

after the fastest shower of my life, for fear of losing my lunch-ewwww, i threw a few clothes in my backpacking bag, grabbed my tent and sleeping back and a few things out of the fridge to munch on. i was really hoping that food would make me feel better, as i didn't realize that it was heat exhaustion yet.

i blasted the AC and the music all the way down to the Springs, verbally telling myself to "focus on the road" the majority of the drive-ha. i made it just in time to find out my sister had been really sick all week and now had double ear infections and a nasty summer cold. bleh! WE WERE A MESS!

given the circumstances, we opted not to camp in the mountains (duh) and our sweet parents spent the weekend nursing us back to health. i was so thankful to have these extra days because 5 days later i'm just starting to feel normal again and sister is still on the mend too.

so our grand ambitions of cleansing our lungs with mountain air and blue skies turned into a weekend full of sleeping 11 hours each night, napping for 2 more each afternoon and being thankful for the care giving of our parents. Thanks Mom & Pa!

p.s. they just celebrated their 32nd Anniversary!! so blessed by their example!
